With every possible steel and plastic clamp available to us today these golden oldies are not to be sniffed at. Apart from being a versatile and light weight tool, these delightful wooden clamps are indeed a work of art. I find that making these tools is quite a challenge to say the least. While the construction of the box is relatively straight forward. Making, sharpening and setting the cutter in exactly the right position or aspect so that you can achieve repeatable and satisfactory results is not always easy. My client planted the trees of which this timber came from in a New Guinea village when he was a young man. One of the laws in that village where they were planted was, if the trees are cut down than the timber belonged to the person who planted them. So much later in his life that is what happened.
